The creative process is unique to each craftsman and when ordering a custom made product from any craftsman I feel its important to know what to expect up front. In the spirit of full disclosure this page is here to help you know what you can expect after ordering from Weld Burn and what you can expect to receive on delivery.
Details About Ordering a Custom Mask
A custom ordered mask from Weld Burn means exactly that, custom. I make each mask around one of the base designs, Canary/Deathstroke/TheDarkness/Grifter, that I created. When you order a custom design you have the opportunity to select if you’d like one of two levels of tooling, or leave it smooth for a clean and classy look.
Ordering a custom mask is, like ordering anything custom, a process and requires some time to complete. Starting from the time you place the order I have two weeks to get the order shipped. Does it take 2 weeks to actually make a mask? No. But it does take some time and under busy work loads it can stretch out a bit. I ask for the two weeks to manage expectations. If you have a ride coming up that you want your mask for then PLEASE TRY TO PLAN ACCORDINGLY when you order. If you email me and say that you’d like it sooner I will attempt to meet all deadlines however just know that is not a promise.
Tooling Level 1: Mild Tooling/Antiquing
If you select this option you get exactly what the title implies, a mildly tooled mask. What does that mean? It mostly means a simple logo, medium sized lettering (initials/monogram not sentences) or something like the texturing you see on the Battle Damage Deathstroke or this example from The Darkness line up (examples below)
This level of tooling is hardly tooling at all and is really more about adding a little depth to the mask’s surface.
Tooling Level 2: Full Custom Tooled Design
Similar to level 1, the title speaks volumes for what you can expect in this level tooling. During check out after selecting this option you will have a chance to submit some details about what you are looking for in the ‘Order Notes’ box on the address page. In that box you can include specific descriptions like ‘I would like x y z’ or more general things like ‘I would like a Sugar Skull/Day of the Dead skull of some sort’. Here are a couple examples of what a full custom design means:
After getting the order my job is then to come up with an idea or two to send over for you input. Unfortunately I have to put a limit of three (3) on the number of designs that I can do or I would be stuck in a never ending loop of modification and tweaks which has happened before.
If we can’t find some common ground in those three designs than you are entitled to a refund.
If we find a design that works for you and you say ‘yes, tool the design’ then from that point on you are committed. I cannot accept any changes following that point.
The last point for a Full Custom Tooled Design: Your design is yours. What I come up with for your design will never be tooled again for anyone else. You are welcome to call me up and order another one, and I will attempt to do another one for you (of course there will be slight variation unless I have the exact pattern still). But you will never have to worry about someone else wearing your same mask! I will of course will do other designs that are similar but never the exact design).
I do my best to keep you updated along the way with photos but there is no guaranty that will always happen. Furthermore just because I sent a couple pics to your friend on his/her order doesn’t mean I’m obligated to do the same number for your order. Photos sent along the way is a courtesy not a right.
The Liner Bandanna
Down the road my plan is to have my own custom branded bandannas printed but for now I simply go out and buy standard bandannas for the liners. If you have special bandanna you would like me to use then you can ship it to me other wise the bandannas are only what I can find to use that mean the color you selected during the ordering process. I would love to offer a lot more options but keeping that many things in stock would be amazingly difficult and expensive. Again, I more than happy to use something you have if you are willing to send it to me, that would really increase the uniqueness and individuality of the mask.
Totally Custom Masks
Yes, I would be more than happy to develop a totally custom mask for you. Keep in mind the price will be different than using my standard mask designs. Just email me about what you are after and we can work together to get something really unique and special.
The half mask listings on this site should each include a fitment guide specific to that product however they will also all be found here as they are available.
